Musician

In Autumn 2009, I met with broadcaster and jazz historian Alan Steadman, who runs the country's longest running jazz club, at the incredible Hospitalfield House in Arbroath in Angus. He wanted to find a unique way to celebrate 20 successful years of Jazz at Hospitalfied, and so the 'Hospitalfield Suite' was commissioned, with help from Creative Scotland.

I chose to put together a band of some the very best musicians in Scotland, and the very fine Alan Barnes as guest artist. Conscious that this was to be a celebration, I tempered my dark musical side (mostly) and wrote eight pieces for the quintet.

The premiere of the music took place in Hospitalfield House on February 13th, 2010, and again in November of that year and the following night at Glasgow City Halls. See review to the right.

The band was: Alan Barnes (saxophone and clarinet), Phil O'Malley (trombone), Paul Harrison (piano), Ed Kelly (bass), Stu Brown (drums).
